GMGN copy trading attaches a task to any Solana wallet so that when it buys or sells a token, your GMGN wallet does the same a few seconds later. It is one of the platform's headline features alongside Trenches and wallet tracking, and it is the one most people misuse. This guide covers setup on the web terminal and the Telegram bot, every buy, sell and filter option, the fee math that decides whether copying can pay at your size, and what to check when a task stops.

Two hard constraints shape everything else. According to GMGN's documentation (docs.gmgn.ai), copy trading is Solana-only, you can run at most 10 concurrent copy tasks, and tasks only run on accounts logged in through Telegram. If you signed in with Phantom or another browser wallet, the task will not execute because GMGN needs a hosted key to sign on your behalf.

This is an independent guide; GMGN AI App Guide is not affiliated with GMGN.

How does GMGN copy trading work?

A copy task is a standing instruction: watch wallet X; when it buys, buy; when it sells, sell. GMGN monitors the target address, sees its transaction, and submits a matching swap from your GMGN-generated Solana wallet using the fee, slippage and size rules you set. You are not sharing keys with the target and the target does not know you exist.

Three details set expectations:

  • Latency. Users typically report a 2–5 second gap between the target's fill and yours. On a memecoin that moves 30% in its first minute, that gap decides your entry.
  • Fees. Every leg pays GMGN's flat 1% plus your priority fee and optional tip. The GMGN fees guide covers the schedule; the break-even table below applies it to copying.
  • Failure handling. A task auto-pauses after 3 consecutive failures and does not notify you loudly. Check your task list.

On "signal copy": GMGN's mobile app has an AI Signal feed in the Monitor tab, but that feed is not a copy source. Copy tasks follow wallets, not signals.

How to copy trade on GMGN (web terminal)

  1. Open the GMGN AI app at gmgn.ai and log in with Telegram. The GMGN login guide explains why this matters: Telegram login creates the GMGN-managed wallet that copy tasks need.
  2. Switch the chain selector to Solana (gmgn.ai/?chain=sol).
  3. Fund the wallet. Keep at least 0.05 SOL in reserve for gas and rent on top of what you deploy.
  4. Open Copy Trade. You can also start a task from a wallet's profile page or from the GMGN wallet tracker.
  5. Paste the target address and name the task.
  6. Choose a buy method: Fixed buy or Max follow-buy.
  7. Choose a sell method: follow-sell, no-follow, TP/SL or batched TP/SL.
  8. Set priority fee and slippage. GMGN recommends 0.006 SOL or more for automated orders and 30–35% slippage; 50% or more only for brand-new launches.
  9. Set filters and add up to 20 tokens to the blacklist.
  10. Decide on Lightning Mode, then confirm.

How to set up copy trade in the GMGN Telegram bot

The Solana bot is @GMGN_sol_bot. Verify the handle character by character; phishing clones swap a capital I for a lowercase l. The bot supports buy/sell, wallet management, referral and copy trade setup, but cannot withdraw funds.

  1. Open @GMGN_sol_bot and press Start.
  2. Open the Copy Trade menu and create a new task.
  3. Paste the target address, then step through buy amount, sell method, slippage and priority fee as prompted.
  4. Confirm. The task runs on the same hosted wallet as your web account, appears on gmgn.ai, and counts toward the 10-task limit.

The GMGN Telegram bot guide covers the other commands. The web interface is easier for editing filters; the bot is convenient for pausing or resuming from your phone.

Buy methods: Fixed buy vs Max follow-buy

Method What it does When it fits
Fixed buy Spends the same SOL amount on every target buy Predictable exposure and constant fee ratio
Max follow-buy Buys proportionally to the target's size, capped at your maximum Targets who size conviction; you inherit their sizing signal

Fixed buy is the safer first task. Max follow-buy is more faithful to the target, but a wallet with 500 SOL buying 5 SOL is making a 1% bet; if your cap is 1 SOL from a 3 SOL wallet, you just made a 33% bet on the same token. Match the cap to your bankroll, not theirs.

Sell methods: follow-sell, no-follow, TP/SL, batched TP/SL

  • Follow-sell mirrors the target's sells proportionally. It is the only mode where you inherit their exit, usually the more valuable half of their edge.
  • No-follow buys with them and leaves exits to you. Only useful if you actively manage positions.
  • TP/SL sets take-profit and stop-loss on each copied position. GMGN's auto-created TP/SL orders are valid for 24 hours, so longer holds are unprotected unless renewed.
  • Batched TP/SL ladders exits, for example 30% at +50%, 30% at +100%, the rest at +200%, with one stop. The limit orders and stop-loss guide covers batched orders and the 100 active order cap.

Follow-sell plus a stop-loss exits either when the target does or when the token falls through your floor, whichever comes first.

Every GMGN copy trade filter explained

Filters decide which target buys you mirror. Skipping a trade is free; copying a bad one is not.

Filter What it controls Practical note
Market cap (min/max) Skips tokens outside a cap band at the target's buy Floor removes rug-prone launches; ceiling avoids late entries
Liquidity (min) Skips thin pools Thin pools mean slippage eats your exit
Token age Skips tokens younger or older than a window Sub-minute tokens are sniper and bundler territory
Burnt ratio Requires a minimum share of LP burned Higher burn, lower LP-pull risk
Min / max copy amount Bounds per-trade size regardless of buy method Set the min so fees stay under about 5%
Position-increase times Caps re-buys of the same token Stops averaging into a dying position
Launchpad Restricts to Pump.fun, letsbonk, Raydium LaunchLab, etc. Match the target's usual venue
Blacklist (20 tokens) Never copies these addresses Tokens you hold or were burned on

GMGN does not publish recommended values. The GMGN filters guide covers the same concepts for Trenches with example presets you can adapt.

What is Lightning Mode and how fast is GMGN copy trade?

Standard mode waits for the target's transaction to confirm before submitting yours. Lightning Mode acts on the unconfirmed message, which GMGN documents as roughly 2 seconds faster. The trade-off is rollback risk: if the target's transaction fails or is dropped, you may already hold a token they never bought.

In practice, with Lightning Mode on and a 0.006 SOL priority fee, community reports put the copy within a couple of seconds; without it, 2–5 seconds is typical. GMGN publishes no official latency figure, and Solana congestion stretches both. Anti-MEV adds a minimum 0.002 SOL priority fee and 0.0001 SOL tip; the Trenches and sniper guide explains its three modes.

GMGN copy trading fees and break-even table

There is no surcharge for copying. You pay what any GMGN trade pays: 1% to GMGN on the buy, 1% on the sell, plus the priority fee and tip on each leg. Priority fees go to validators, not GMGN.

Because the priority fee is a fixed SOL amount, it is a large share of a small trade. Round-trip break-even at 0.006 SOL per leg, including 2% in platform fees:

Copy size Priority fees (2 legs) Platform fees Gain needed to break even
0.1 SOL 0.012 SOL (12%) 2% ~14%
0.5 SOL 0.012 SOL (2.4%) 2% ~4.4%
1 SOL 0.012 SOL (1.2%) 2% ~3.2%
2 SOL 0.012 SOL (0.6%) 2% ~2.6%

If your target's average winner is +40% and average loser is -30%, a 0.1 SOL copy size turns a marginal strategy into a losing one before latency is counted. This is why "best gmgn copy trade settings" threads reach the same conclusion: size up or do not copy.

Also: the PnL shown in GMGN does not reliably deduct priority fees and tips. Judge results by wallet balance, as the GMGN PnL guide explains.

Why do most GMGN copiers lose money?

Does copy trading on GMGN work? Mechanically, yes. Financially, most users lose, for structural reasons:

  1. You are always late. The target's fill triggers yours. On a token that pumps 50% in ten seconds, a 3-second delay costs 10–20% of entry.
  2. You pay the fees on a worse price. Same 2% plus priority as the target, from a later fill.
  3. Leaderboard survivorship. A 7-day PnL of +300% says nothing about the next 7 days.
  4. Filters that skip the winners. A tight market cap ceiling often blocks exactly the trades where the target made its money.
  5. Exit latency. When the target dumps into a crash, you sell after them into a thinner book.
  6. Target drift. Wallets go quiet, get sold, or start trading their own launches.

How to choose a wallet to copy

  • Copy Trade rank and Smart Money leaderboard. Sort by 7-day and 30-day PnL, then read win rate and trade count. Fifty trades at 60% beats five at 100%.
  • Profit concentration. If one token is 90% of the PnL, that is a lottery ticket, not a strategy.
  • Holding time. A wallet that scalps in 30 seconds cannot be copied at a 3-second delay. Prefer minutes to hours.
  • Tags. Skip wallets tagged Sniper or Bot Degen; never copy Phishing.
  • Scoring tools. The open-source gmgn-skills repo (github.com/GMGNAI/gmgn-skills) includes a copy-trade wallet scoring skill.

Track a candidate for a week before committing SOL. If its trades would have lost at your size and delay, the leaderboard number is irrelevant.

GMGN copy trade not working: troubleshooting stopped tasks

Symptom / code Likely cause Fix
Paused, B1 trade_error_0x1 Insufficient SOL Top up; keep 0.05 SOL reserve beyond copy sizes
C1 0x1e / 0x1773 Slippage revert (gas burned) Raise slippage to 30–35%, or 50%+ for new tokens
B5 session invalid Login expired Log in again with Telegram; restart task
D1 0x28 Target bought a rugged token Tighten burnt-ratio and liquidity filters
D2 0x1775 Token mid-migration Wait; see the No Available Router guide
Trades missing, no error Filters rejected the buys Loosen market cap, age or launchpad filters
Nothing runs Logged in with a browser wallet Tasks need Telegram login on a hosted wallet
Cannot add a task 10-task limit reached Delete or pause an old task

Submission failures (B-codes) cost nothing. Execution failures (C1) burn gas and the priority fee, so a task that fails three times on slippage has cost real SOL before pausing. For platform-wide issues, see GMGN not working.

Limits to know before you start

  • Solana only. GMGN trades on BSC, Ethereum, Base, Tron, Robinhood Chain and more, but copy tasks are Solana-only per the docs.
  • 10 concurrent tasks, one target wallet each.
  • Telegram login required. Phantom and MetaMask logins are separate accounts that cannot run tasks.
  • Hosted wallet. Private key export is prohibited on GMGN, so the wallet your tasks trade from is a hot trading account, not storage.
  • No paper trading. Test with small sizes, knowing small sizes are fee-inefficient.

Key takeaways

  • GMGN copy trading is Solana-only, capped at 10 tasks, and requires Telegram login on a hosted wallet.
  • Fixed buy plus follow-sell with a stop-loss is the most forgiving starting configuration.
  • At 0.006 SOL per leg, a 0.1 SOL copy needs about 14% gain to break even; 1 SOL needs about 3.2%.
  • Lightning Mode saves around 2 seconds at the cost of rollback risk.
  • Tasks pause after 3 consecutive failures; the fix is almost always SOL balance, slippage, or an expired session.
  • Judge a target by trade count, win rate and holding time over weeks, not one 7-day PnL figure.

Frequently asked questions

How do I copy trade on GMGN?

Log in with Telegram on gmgn.ai, switch to Solana, open Copy Trade and paste the target wallet address. Pick a buy method (Fixed buy or Max follow-buy), a sell method (follow-sell, TP/SL or no-follow), set filters and priority fee, then start the task. The @GMGN_sol_bot Telegram bot can create the same task.

How fast is GMGN copy trade?

Users typically report a 2–5 second delay between the target's transaction and your copy. Lightning Mode is documented as roughly 2 seconds faster because it acts on unconfirmed messages, with rollback risk if the target transaction never lands.

Does copy trading on GMGN actually work?

The mechanism works: buys and sells are mirrored reliably. Profitability is another matter. You enter after the target, pay 1% plus priority fee on both legs, and inherit the target's losers without their edge. Most copiers lose to latency and fee drag, not to a broken feature.

Why did my GMGN copy trade task stop?

A task auto-pauses after 3 consecutive failed transactions. Usual causes are insufficient SOL (B1), a slippage revert (C1), an expired session (B5), or filters rejecting the target's buys. Top up SOL, widen slippage for new tokens, raise the priority fee, and restart the task.

Is GMGN copy trading available on BSC or Ethereum?

No. According to GMGN's documentation, copy trading is Solana-only as of September 2026. Other chains have manual trading, limit orders and Trenches, but no copy tasks.

What are the best GMGN copy trade settings?

There is no universal best. A defensible starting point from GMGN's own recommendations is a priority fee of 0.006 SOL or more, 30–35% slippage, follow-sell enabled, and a fixed buy size large enough that fees stay under about 5% of the position, roughly 0.5 SOL or more.
