GMGN vs Photon was a real contest in early 2025. It is not one anymore. Both terminals charge a 1% trading fee with no cashback, but per DefiLlama fee data read 8 September 2026, GMGN earned $45.50M over the trailing 30 days (a 40.2% share of tracked terminals) while Photon earned $0.71M (0.6%). Photon peaked at $84.6M in a single month in January 2025; GMGN's peak month came in October 2025 at $44.6M and it is still near that level.
The fee tie means the decision rests on chains, features, and liquidity of attention. Photon is a Solana terminal. GMGN runs ten chains and documents copy trading, a wallet tracker, a sniper, limit and TP/SL orders, Anti-MEV, and native mobile apps. This guide lays out the numbers behind the decline, what each terminal actually documents, and who should still consider Photon.

Photon vs GMGN fees: the same 1%, and neither gives it back
"photon vs gmgn" fee searches expect a winner. There is not one at the platform level: 1% per trade on both, no subscription, no cashback documented on either. That puts both above Axiom's effective rate after its tiered cashback (0.95% down to 0.75%) and in line with BullX Neo, Trojan, Maestro, and Pump.fun's Terminal, which also sit at roughly 1%.
The cost you control is the priority fee. On GMGN it is user-set from 0.0001 to 2 SOL, with a tip of the same range for private nodes; GMGN keeps neither, passing them to validators and Jito-style nodes. GMGN's recommended settings are 0.002–0.005 SOL for a normal trade, 0.006 SOL or more for automated orders, slippage on Auto for manual trades, 30–35% for automated orders, and 50% or more for brand-new tokens. GMGN's default priority fee of 0.006 SOL is high relative to some competitors, so lower it manually on small positions. The arithmetic: a 0.1 SOL trade at 0.006 SOL priority fee costs 6% on-chain before the 1%; at 0.002 SOL it costs 2%; a 1 SOL trade at 0.006 SOL costs 0.6%.
Two GMGN-specific fee points to know:
- Anti-MEV needs at least 0.002 SOL priority fee plus a 0.0001 SOL tip. It shipped in July 2025 after an April 2025 report found GMGN users absorbed about 30.8% of Solana sandwich-attack profits across 260k+ attacks in 30 days. GMGN pairs it with a compensation policy for verified sandwich victims.
- PnL display does not reliably deduct priority fees and tips. Trust wallet balance changes.
Pump.fun-launched tokens carry the launchpad's own 1% on any terminal. The GMGN fees guide has the full breakdown, including copy-trade break-even math.
The decline story: Photon from $84.6M a month to $0.71M
The numbers tell it plainly. Photon's best month, January 2025, brought in $84.6M in fees. In the 30 days to 8 September 2026 it brought in $0.71M, about 0.8% of that peak. Its 24-hour figure on the read date was $0.01M and its 7-day figure $0.09M. Its lifetime total of $441.6M is still larger than GMGN's $303.4M, which shows how dominant it once was and how completely the recent flow has moved.
GMGN's trajectory ran the other way. In January 2025 Solana was 99.5% of GMGN's fees; it was then a Solana terminal like Photon. Through 2025 and 2026 it added BSC, Base, Ethereum, Tron, Blast, Monad, Robinhood Chain, Arc, and Stable. By early August 2026 BSC was 58.9% of its fees and Solana 31.5%; a competitor-cited DefiLlama split for August 2026 put Robinhood Chain at 58.6%, BSC at 24.8%, and Solana at 12.7%. GMGN's lifetime fees went from about $240M on 6 August 2026 to about $303M on 8 September 2026, roughly $63M in a month, which is close to its October 2025 peak pace.
The mechanism is straightforward. Memecoin volume rotated across chains, and a Solana-only terminal cannot follow it. GMGN's router handled 4.86M swaps worth $947.5M on Robinhood Chain in one three-day window after that chain's 1 July 2026 launch, per a Medium/Coinmonks analysis; Photon had no way to participate. The GMGN chains guide tracks the current mix.
Why does volume matter to a trader?
Volume on a terminal is not the same as liquidity in a pool; you can trade any Solana token on either terminal. But it affects three practical things:
- Development pace. Fee revenue funds engineering. A terminal earning $45M a month ships Anti-MEV, new chains, and API tooling; one earning $0.7M is unlikely to.
- Copy-trade and tracker signal. Smart-money and KOL data is richer when more wallets route through the platform.
- Support and incident response. GMGN promised 100% compensation to about 107 phishing victims in October 2025; the ability to do that depends on revenue.
None of this makes Photon unsafe or unusable. It makes it a legacy tool.
Chains: Solana-only vs ten chains
Photon is a Solana terminal. GMGN's web terminal runs on Solana, BSC, Ethereum, Base, Tron, Blast, Monad, Robinhood Chain, Arc, and Stable, switched via gmgn.ai/?chain=sol, bsc, eth, base, robinhood, and so on. GMGN also runs per-chain Telegram bots: @GMGN_sol_bot, @GMGN_bsc_bot, @GMGN_swap_bot (Ethereum), @GMGN_base_bot, and @GMGN_tron_bot.
Not everything on GMGN carries across chains. Copy trading is Solana-only. Multi-wallet is documented for Solana. Importing an external wallet on an EVM chain irreversibly replaces the old address. If you trade only Solana, chain count is not a reason to switch; if your flow has moved to BSC or Robinhood Chain, it is the whole reason.
Features: discovery, copy trading, automation, tracking
GMGN's documented feature set is the second half of the gmgn vs photon case.
Discovery. Trenches shows New, Almost Bonded, and Migrated columns across Pump.fun, letsbonk, Raydium LaunchLab, and other launchpads, with hotkey buying (hold Z plus a row key in Simple mode, Space plus column and row in Combo mode), Quick Buy presets, and saveable filters on market cap, liquidity, holders, age, dev holding, top-10 share, sniper/insider/bundler percentages, socials, keywords, and launchpad. The Trenches sniper guide covers setup.
Security panel. Per token: mint authority, freeze/blacklist, top-10 holder share, LP burned, rug probability, dev rug history, honeypot (ETH), contract verified, ownership renounced, buy/sell tax, insiders, snipers, bundlers, phishing flag, dev-sold status. Holder labels include Smart Degen, Bot Degen, Fresh wallet, Sniper, KOL, and Phishing.
Copy trading. Solana only, up to ten concurrent tasks, Telegram-style login required. Fixed buy or Max follow-buy; follow-sell, no-follow, TP/SL, or batched TP/SL exits; filters on market cap, liquidity, token age, burnt ratio, launchpad, plus a 20-token blacklist; Lightning Mode about two seconds faster with rollback risk; auto-pause after three consecutive failures. Reported latency 2–5 seconds. See the GMGN copy trading guide.
Automation. Limit buy and sell (100 active max), TP/SL, batched TP/SL, trailing take-profit, dev-sell auto-sell, migrated snipe and migrated sell, auto buy. No shorting, no perps, no paper trading.
Tracking. Wallet Tracker with alerts, Wallet Radar, Smart Money leaderboard, KOL/VC tracker, X Tracker for tweets mentioning contract addresses, insider and bundler tabs. See the GMGN wallet tracker guide.
Developer tooling. An Agent API with key registration at gmgn.ai/ai and an MIT-licensed skills repo at github.com/GMGNAI/gmgn-skills (about 556 stars, September 2026) for AI-IDE trading bots.
We could not verify Photon's equivalents for any of these from documented sources. It may have some; the point is that GMGN's are documented, so you know exactly what you are getting before you deposit.
Mobile and custody
GMGN ships native apps: "GMGN - Meme Track" on iOS (GraceMatrix Technologies Limited, iOS 15.6+, about 238.7 MB) and "GMGN" on Android (com.gmgn.app, GMGN Labs Limited, 100K+ downloads, about 3.9 stars from roughly 1,320 ratings, updated 21 August 2026 per Google Play). We could not verify a Photon mobile app.
Custody is where GMGN needs eyes open. It uses a hosted wallet architecture. Private key export is prohibited on all chains, including imported wallets, since around 19 March 2025. Withdrawals require Google Authenticator 2FA, whitelisted addresses, a 3-hour hold after the first whitelist or an address change, a 24-hour hold after re-binding 2FA, and the website (the bot cannot withdraw). No key-based recovery is documented if you lose your Telegram account. GMGN has had no verified infrastructure hack as of September 2026, though users have lost funds to phishing and to sandwich attacks before Anti-MEV. The alternative is "Trade with Wallet" via a browser extension, which keeps keys with you but disables Anti-MEV and automation.
We could not verify Photon's custody rules. Treat any terminal wallet as a hot trading account. The is GMGN safe guide covers the incidents and controls in detail.
GMGN vs Photon vs Axiom
Add Axiom and the picture sharpens. Per DefiLlama data read 8 September 2026:
| Terminal | 30d fees | 30d share | Lifetime | Fee | Chains |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GMGN | $45.50M | 40.2% | $303.4M | 1%, no cashback | 10 chains |
| Axiom | $39.04M | 34.5% | $769.2M | 1% base, 0.95%–0.75% effective after cashback, 10% referral discount | Solana-focused + Robinhood Chain |
| Photon | $0.71M | 0.6% | $441.6M | 1%, no cashback | Solana |
Axiom is the cheaper Solana option after cashback and the only one of the three with perps (via Hyperliquid). GMGN is the multichain and copy-trade option. Photon is the one that has faded. For a Solana-only trader in 2026 the live choice is GMGN vs Axiom, not either of them versus Photon.
GMGN vs Photon vs BullX
BullX Neo charges about 1%, is multichain, and uses Telegram login, which makes it structurally closer to GMGN than to Photon. BullX was not in the DefiLlama fee set we read, so we cannot rank its volume, and we could not verify its copy trading, tracker, or mobile apps. Photon is Solana-only at 1%. If your question is "gmgn vs photon vs bullx," the practical answer is that GMGN and BullX are the two multichain candidates and Photon is the legacy Solana option; the GMGN vs BullX comparison covers the first pair in detail.
Who should still use Photon?
A few traders reasonably stay:
- Solana-only traders with a working setup who do not want to learn a new interface or move funds. Fees are identical, and a tool that works is a tool that works.
- Traders who want to keep a second terminal for redundancy during an outage on their primary.
- Anyone who distrusts GMGN's hosted-wallet model and has confirmed Photon's custody rules suit them better. We could not verify those rules, so do that check yourself.
Everyone else, and especially anyone who has watched their flow move to BSC or Robinhood Chain, will find that GMGN offers documented features Photon does not at the same price. The GMGN alternatives page covers the rest of the field, including Padre, FOMO, Jupiter, and the Telegram bots.
Bottom line
- Fees: 1% on both, no cashback on either. The priority fee you set matters more than the platform fee on small trades.
- Volume: GMGN $45.50M vs Photon $0.71M in 30-day fees (40.2% vs 0.6% share) per DefiLlama, 8 September 2026. Photon peaked at $84.6M a month in January 2025.
- Chains: Photon is Solana-only; GMGN runs ten chains, and its fee mix has shifted to BSC and Robinhood Chain.
- Features: GMGN documents copy trading, sniper, automation, wallet tracking, Anti-MEV, and mobile apps; Photon's equivalents were not verified.
- Custody: GMGN prohibits key export and gates withdrawals with 2FA; treat any terminal wallet as a hot account.
The gmgn vs photon verdict in 2026 is that the fee tie no longer matters because the products have diverged: GMGN is a multichain terminal with documented automation and tracking, and Photon is a Solana terminal with 0.6% of the market. Frequently asked questions
Is Photon still active in 2026?
Yes, but at a fraction of its former size. Per DefiLlama data read 8 September 2026, Photon earned $0.01M in 24 hours, $0.09M over 7 days, and $0.71M over 30 days, a 0.6% share of tracked terminals. Its peak month was January 2025 at $84.6M. It still processes trades; it is no longer a volume leader.
GMGN vs Photon fees: which is cheaper?
Neither. Both charge a 1% platform fee and neither documents cashback for traders. Your real cost difference comes from the priority fee you set. GMGN lets you set 0.0001 to 2 SOL and recommends 0.002 to 0.005 SOL for normal trades; keep that low on small positions and the two are equivalent on fees.
Which is better for Solana memecoins, GMGN or Photon?
On documented features, GMGN. It has Trenches discovery with hotkeys, a security panel, copy trading, limit and TP/SL orders, a wallet tracker, and Anti-MEV. Photon is a Solana terminal at the same 1%, but its usage has declined sharply and its feature set was not something we could verify as matching GMGN's.
GMGN vs Photon vs Axiom: which has the most volume?
GMGN, then Axiom, then Photon by a wide margin. Per DefiLlama data read 8 September 2026, 30-day fees were GMGN $45.50M (40.2%), Axiom $39.04M (34.5%), and Photon $0.71M (0.6%). On lifetime fees the order is Axiom $769.2M, Photon $441.6M, GMGN $303.4M, which shows how much Photon has faded.
GMGN vs Photon vs BullX: how do they compare?
All three charge about 1%. GMGN and BullX are multichain with Telegram login; Photon is Solana-only. GMGN's features and volume are documented; BullX was not in the DefiLlama fee set we read, and Photon's 30-day fees are $0.71M. For most traders it is a GMGN vs BullX decision, with Photon as a legacy option.
Should I switch from Photon to GMGN?
If you trade beyond Solana, want copy trading or a wallet tracker, or want native mobile apps, GMGN offers documented features Photon does not. Fees are identical at 1%. Before moving funds, note that GMGN uses a hosted wallet with no private key export and 2FA-gated withdrawals, so read its custody rules first.
Open the official terminal, install the iOS or Android app, or start with the Telegram bot. Keep only trading capital in the wallet.
